Before you reach out

Questions are a good
place to start.

Practical answers and a little reassurance about starting therapy. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we talk.

Getting started

How do I get started?

Request a free, required 15-minute phone consultation. We’ll discuss your needs, availability, payment options, and whether we’re a good fit before arranging an appointment.

What happens during the free consultation?

We’ll talk by phone for about 15 minutes about what you’re looking for, availability, fees, and whether my approach fits your needs. You can ask questions before deciding on next steps.

What if I don’t know what to say?

You don’t need a prepared story or the perfect words. We can start with what feels difficult right now, and I’ll help guide the conversation at a pace that feels manageable.

Do my problems need to be serious to start therapy?

You don’t need to wait until things feel unmanageable. You might want support with stress, boundaries, low mood, recurring arguments, or a change in your life. We can talk during the consultation about what you’re noticing and whether my services fit your needs.

What if I’ve had an unhelpful therapy experience before?

You’re welcome to tell me what did not work, what felt uncomfortable, and what you hope will be different. You don’t have to share more than you want to. We can discuss my approach, your preferences, and any concerns before you decide whether to move forward.

What happens after the consultation?

If we decide to move forward together, I’ll send your intake paperwork through SimplePractice before your first appointment. You’ll have an opportunity to review the forms and ask questions before we begin.

What happens in the first session?

We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to change, and relevant background at a pace that feels comfortable. Together, we’ll begin identifying goals and a plan for our work. You’ll also have space to ask questions.

How often will we meet?

We’ll decide session frequency together, based on your needs, goals, and what works for you. We can revisit the plan as our work progresses.

How will we know whether therapy is helping?

We’ll identify goals that matter to you and talk about what progress would look like in your everyday life. We’ll check in about what feels useful and what needs to change. If you feel stuck or unsure, you can say so—we can revisit our approach and consider other options when appropriate.

What if we’re not the right fit?

Finding the right therapist matters. If we decide that my approach or services do not match your needs, I can offer referral suggestions to help you explore other options.

Is therapy confidential?

Your privacy matters. Before therapy begins, we’ll review how your information is protected, how records are handled, and the legal limits of confidentiality. You’ll have space to ask questions.

Fees & scheduling

How much does therapy cost?

Private-pay rates and session lengths are listed on the Rates & insurance section of the Therapy page. We’ll discuss expected costs before treatment. A limited number of reduced-fee appointments may be available; please ask during your consultation.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance and private pay are accepted. View participating plans and payment information. Participation and benefits depend on your state, specific plan, and service. We’ll confirm coverage and expected costs before treatment. Insurance acceptance does not guarantee coverage for couples sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a therapy appointment. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice and missed appointments incur a $120 fee for individual therapy or a $150 fee for couples therapy. Exceptions for emergencies may be considered individually.

Online therapy

How do video therapy sessions work?

Video therapy sessions take place through SimplePractice. You’ll need a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a private location where you can speak comfortably. Joining instructions will be provided before your appointment.

Where can I attend telehealth sessions?

You must be physically located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, or Connecticut at each therapy appointment, including when traveling. We’ll confirm your location and eligibility for care. If your plans change, let me know before your session so we can discuss the next step.

What if we have a technical problem during a video session?

If our video connection fails, I’ll call you to troubleshoot and discuss the next step. I also have doxy.me available as a backup video platform. Depending on the situation, we’ll decide whether to reconnect using the backup or reschedule. I’ll provide any backup joining instructions directly.

Relationships & affirming care

What does affirming care mean in our sessions?

It means approaching your identities, values, and consensual relationships with respect and curiosity. I provide LGBTQIA+ affirming, kink-aware care and welcome people in consensually non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships. We can focus on what brought you to therapy without assuming your identity or relationship structure is the problem.

Can I work with you if I’m straight or monogamous?

Yes. I welcome adults and couples across sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship structures, including straight and monogamous clients. You don’t need a particular identity or label to reach out. Our work will focus on your concerns, values, and goals.

What if my partner is unsure about couples therapy?

It’s okay to have different feelings about starting. The consultation gives us a chance to discuss questions, concerns, and what each of you hopes might change. If your partner isn’t ready, you can still ask about individual support. We’ll discuss which service and next step fit your situation; one person attending does not commit the other to therapy.

Will you take sides in couples therapy?

My role is to help each person feel heard and understand the patterns between you, rather than decide who wins an argument. We’ll work on expressing needs, listening, and making room for accountability. During the consultation, we can discuss your concerns and whether working together is appropriate.
